Interest
This web site is posted for the benefit of G-7 alumni. While it is regrettable
that the active company has disbanded at Kansas State, many of us still
value the friendships and experiences we shared as ROTC cadets at KSU.
One of the major reasons for this site is to compile a list of e-mail
addresses so we can contact each other. Since the purpose of the site is
to encourage communication, it does not have a "password" system. No
promises can be offered about keeping information from evil-doers
(advertisers, spammers, etc.) Telephone numbers, and addresses will not
be posted in order to limit exposure of additional personal data. Any G-7
Alumnus willing to have their e-mail address posted on this site, please let
us know. It will be added to the "G-7 Roster Page" as soon as possible.
At the present time, there is no "official" alumni association at the national
level. At the 2008 NATCON, groundwork was begun to start such an
organization. Formed mostly from alumni groups from the 8th Regiment,
the Federation of Pershing Rifles Alumni Associations (FPRAA) is in the
process of being formed.

Another alumni group from which you may get hits on a browser search is
the National Society of Pershing Rifles Alumni Association. While the title
suggests a nation-wide organization, at this time it is limited mainly to
alumni from "Historically Black Schools" in the eastern United States.
NSPRAA is probably the strongest P/R alumni group currently in
existence. Their web site contains some valuable information and is worth
a good look. The FPRAA and NSPRAA are in discussions to incorporate.
News Sources
G-7 had a long and proud tradition at Kansas State. Thanks to information from Mr. Norman Wilms, who was
a founding member of Company G-7, we now know the unit was formed in 1949. His message is copied
below.
POSTED 26 MAY 2008: RECEIVED FROM MR. NORMAN WILMS, A FOUNDING MEMBER OF
COMPANY G-7

My son Richard advised that you would like my e-mail again. Here it is.

The Pershing Rifle group was formed at Kansas State in 1949. It started with about 20 members. At that time all 1st and 2nd year
male students, who were not veterans, were required to take Basic ROTC. On days when you had an ROTC class at the Military
Science Building the student was required to wear their uniform.

Pershing Rifles grew to 30 - 50 members and had a crack drill team that used the M-1 rifle. Pershing Rifles is one of three honorary
military organizations. The others are Scabbard and Blade and Cadet Officers Club.

Clyde M Phinney was the top man in PR. The sponsors were Capt. William C Goers and 1st Lt Edward M Crocket.

In 1950 and 1951 many world war II veterans that were killed in action were returned home for burial. Members of Pershing Rifles
performed the honor guard for the burial. The 03 rifle was used for this duty. We were in Sunset Cemetery many times.

In 1949 the drill team went to Oklahoma State to compete in drill team competition with other Big Eight teams. We rode to Stillwater
in military trucks.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower with P/R Honor Guard

This photograph was submitted by Thomas Hopkins. It was on exibit in the KSU Student Union in the 1970's. The exact
circumstances and date are not certain, but Tom believes this may have been taken in Abilene, Kansas, possibly at the
Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Note the P/R cord on the cadet officer's shoulder. Can anyone recognize
him or any members of the honor guard?
